This is another fun biography that I read with my son who loves soccer. We both love biographies and this was another in a series written by Michael Part that we have enjoyed. Well written and easy for this age group (kids and young teens), it's interesting to learn about the players and how they got to where they are today. This is one of our favorites!

This is the book that all of us in the Pacific Northwest have been waiting for. These authors have obviously spent countless hours researching and photographing the birds of our area, and have compiled their vast knowledge for the rest of us. I really appreciate the information not just on bird identification (which is very well done), but on behaviors, voices, habitats, status, and also where to find them. There is also good info to help us on the trickier bird IDs. The photography is phenomenal--Shewey and Blount have captured not just the look, but the personality and lifestyle of the birds in their pictures. This book is a must for all pacific northwesterners!

Simply the finest birding book for the region I have seen and now own.The book has so many things done right that I have virtually set aside every other book I have previously relied on for birding in the backyard and back country alike.Layout- Easy to use, easy to quickly search and reference. Easy. Period.Photos- High quality, great shots and real shots that help me reference what I am really seeing in the field. With multiple aspects of most birds in a range of plumages when appropriate.Descriptions- A perfect blend of technical data and language that is appropriate to the lay-person and expert alike. I purchased this book for multiple family members and some of the more beginner birders find the best aspect to be-- 'they understand it'.I would consider myself to be a Novice birder but spend more than an average amount of time in the outdoors observing. This is a great reference tool, and incredibly reasonable in price for all it provides.It may not replace your entire birding library as it did mine, but I assure you it deserves a place in it.

UPDATE 8/26/2018:I've referred to this thing endlessly this year. I will be watching this one for future revision/additions if they ever come. This is the bird guide for PNW, hands-down. My 5 stars stand.ORIGINAL REVIEW:I've only just gotten into this guide and already I am simply impressed. The photography is outstanding and without being overly contrast-laden, heavily edited as several other guides tend toward (I believe editors believe this adds clarity to the markings and colors, but really it only muddies the waters since no bird appears this way naturally). The descriptions, ranges and behavioral notes are excellent, marvelous really for a book of this size. The organization is well done and the cover and binding are strong. Not much more to ask for. My previous favorite for our region is "Birds of the Puget Sound Region Coast to Cacades" Paulson, Morse, Aversa and Opperman ... but I have to admit, except for the physical size of this book, its a bit better in most ways. It's naturally larger as is covers a much larger region, but even still I'm happy to have picked it up. A new favorite.

The handiness of this guide for birders in the Pacific Northwest (PNW) from Vancouver, BC to Boise, ID is undisputed. It photographs the majority of species beautifully, often including images of birds in flight, color morphs, appropriate subspecies, and sexual dimorphism. Some photos are not 100% perfect, like the dark image of the Black-billed Magpie, with no hint of its green and blue iridescence. However, these flaws are rare, and difficult to control with moving subjects like birds.The introduction of the book provides a descent overview of tools for birding, identification tips, confusing regional lookalike species, and of course, highlights some birding hotspots in the PNW.Each of the nearly 400 species (300 breeding) are given at least a page, including photos, description, species' dimensions (size), voice, behaviors, habitat, status, and distribution map. Maps are a bit too small, despite having page space available. However, they are detailed when it comes to temporal changes (season movements) to species' ranges.This book at 559-pages long is perhaps unnecessarily bulky, considering it's dedicated to one region within the world's smallest (by species) avifaunal region, the Neararctic. Unallocated white space is commonplace on pages and it lacks the intense detail in distribution maps I would like to see from a regional guide. Whist the seasonality in the maps is appreciated, species' status (where common or uncommon) should be included when dealing with a small region, as one might find in a birding atlas.Notwithstanding, this is a great regional guide. If a little more attention was given to species' accounts spatial allocations, map sizing and distribution detail therein, then a subsequent edition may be rendered utterly unparalleled.

I have used bird field guides for years. This is by far the best I’ve ever seen. The photographs are wonderful. The information is well done and put together well. I’m really impressed. I bought one for myself, one for my daughter, and plan to get another one for a friend. I love this field guide. Thank you Mr. Shewey, Mr. Blount and the photographer.

This is a beautiful book with great pictures and well organized. I find it easy to look up unknown birds. After comparing books and looking around for quite a while I found the price on this one to be more than reasonable. It’s well bound and easy to use. I like that it gives an overview of the geographic area where each bird predominately resides. I also like that the descriptions are for both juvenile as well as male and female of each species.

Thick, sturdy paperback I bought for my little unschoolers. They drag it around everywhere and have identified several birds.

We bought a new home and the yard is bird heaven. We can sit at any of our back windows and watch birds in the baths, in the trees, and digging for worms. It's been really interesting trying to decide what the birds are and this book has been incredibly useful and educational.

I overlooked this book for a long time, the title did not register. Although, after reading it I think its impact will never leave. The story shows how a young girl holds steadfast in Christ. She is a babe in Him, but never give in.

Written in 2010 and the events seem eerily close to our society today. People have blinders on and will keep following the darkness. I know this story as told in the Bible about future events yet the author weaves it into a modern tale we can easily relate to. Very well done. READ IT!

This is a Christian End Times novel.The reader finds the main character, Becky, running for her life. The reasons for this unfolds in flashbacks through the eyes of Becky.I like that the reader finds out what is going on in the 'author's world' through Becky's eyes. It is a world that is different in some ways from our current one. The possibility does exist that our world may turn into this if the warning placed within the novel is not heeded.If you are a Christian and wonder what End Times may look like, this is the book for you. If you are a non-Christian and wonder why some Christians are the way they are, you may discover some answers within these pages.

What a wonderful blessing, this book is well written and backed by the Word of God. Most definitely a great book to recommend to family, friends any everyone else!A must read

I have read this today for the second time. It is a great witness to all who will read it. I pray that anyone who is seeking the real answer would take this book and the opportunity it offers seriously, don't wait.

When I ordered this book I wasn't quite sure what I was getting. I haven't read a novel in quite a while so I wasn't sure if this one would be interesting. It started slow for me(I thought at first it was written for more of the teenage crowd), but it really got me hooked. Not only was the story gripping but I learned more about the Book of Revelation than any other book I have ever read because it is in story form and very entertaining. I don't want to give away any of the plot but at one point I was ready to stand up and be accounted as one of Christ's Soldiers and get out and do something like the first time I saw Rocky in the movie theatres. Remember that. That was fun. So I hope you get this and enjoy, it is really a fun ride.

This is a sadly realistic novel of the end times predicted in the book of Revelation. The young teenager who is the main character,shows just how hard it will be and that only trust in Jesus is the only way,the truth,and the light.

I love this book about the end times. And when the court scene was told, I know this will be how it goes. Either you stand for Christ or you choose the antichrist. We must develop the faith!

Good read with 2 adventurous guys nothaving a clue what lay ahead. They canmark this trip off their bucket list!

Great read with interesting and colorful commentary that keeps the reader engaged. Through the last page, I wanted to reading more. Ready to hear about the next modern day adventure from this writer.

Enjoyed everything about this book. Randy is a great storyteller!

I received a copy to facilitate my review.Talk about courage, these men, Randy Denmon and Dean Lewis, have it. I would never attempt to do what they did. He and a friend took an electric car, a Tesla S and drove it from Louisiana to the Panama Canal. What terrified me were the very things they had to worry about. A lot of these countries have drug lords. They also had to worry about to deal with policemen who did things their own way. For me the scariest thing was not knowing where they were going to be able to get electric to power their car. They took all kinds of plugs and extension cords. The Tesla sits real low to the ground. This was also a problem for them. They were not always driving on real smooth roads. There were treacherous mountain roads. There were roads full of potholes, bumps, and other problems like volcanoes. The book, for all of the issues they faced is very upbeat due to Randy’s attitude/sense of humor. As much as I loved the book and knew things had to turn out okay, since they made it back to write the book, I worried for them and their safety the entire time. This was definitely different from what I usually read. That is probably why I enjoyed it so much. I could live through their trip without having to do the physical traveling, from the safety of my own home.

In my younger years I considered myself the adventurous sort but there is NO WAY I would have undertaken a journey of this magnitude. This is what happens when a guy who hasn't taken a "real" vacation in over five years gets a wild idea and finds a friend willing to ride along.As far as the writing goes, Randy is no Bert Levy but he does add some humor into this dangerous adventure. There are many fascinating historical facts presented along the way, along with some political opinion.Because I know he lived to write about it, some of the edge has been taken off. I kept waiting for a few more Top Gear type moments. I can imagine readers and friends waiting breathlessly for daily reports as this daring duo attacked unknown territory.

Throughout the work I had a growing suspicion that this trip wasnt as ad lib as portrayed. I strongly suspect Tesla underwrote the adventure but there is no evidence for that claim. The author’s narrative provides the reader with an interesting travel guide for 3000 miles of country most of us know little about. Randy and Dan’s adventure at times seems to be extremely wreckless and risky. I have a sense, however, that Randy had much more knowledge of the region and the people than he divulges. Few people crave adventure to the extent that Randy and Dean did and it is even more rare to read a story like this that isn’t interspersed with left wing comments. If you love big government you may want to spend 231 pages reading something else.

Not my kind of book. Hard to relate to having a Tesla.Taking pointless risks always strikes me as dumb and reading about them is not enjoyable. There is nothing enjoyable about the constant listing of crimes against humans. There is almost as much focus on the horrors done recently to people in each area they drive to, as there is with finding power plugs.It is no surprise that finding the right power is a constant problem. Combining that known, with the violence and lawlessness of the area, their decision to travel with an all electric car is just dumb..Their survival had nothing to do with their smarts or ability. It was pure luck. Yet the book seeps with a macho bravado tone. They seem to feel as if they accomplished something.
