The first page drew me in to the story immediately. I couldn't put the book down until I finished, my heart was so invested in the characters. Ms. Herne delivers another sweet, heart-wrenching story of lives we don't know much about. This knowledge of the portrayed living conditions can only come from first hand experience.I wish there were more teachers that could see what not's readily visible as the pre-school teacher in this story. All I know is, I cried through this story and acquired a new-found respect for social workers and underpaid teachers.This story is my new favorite of Ms. Herne's.
Ruth Logan Herne writes with heart and emotion and this book did not disappoint. It is a beautifully written story of young Cassie, who lives with her alcoholic father in a cold, rat-infested shack. Enter young kindergarten teacher Kerry who knows all too well what Cassie is going through and gives her the love and attention she craves. The romance in the book kept me guessing as I didn't know whether Kerry would choose the young cancer doctor Ryan or the handsome widowed Sheriff's deputy and his two young boys. I had a hard time putting this book down.
This is a heartwarming book. I got mad at our system just like Kerrie. It really gives a person a lot to think about and pray about. I laughed and I cried! Thank u so much for writing wonderful thoughts provoking books, that causes a person to be thankful for a strong faith. I love all your books please keep writing, faster if possible. . g
I just discovered Ruth Logan Herne about a month ago! And now I am trying to read every one of her books. I am a 78 year old widow so I have lots of time to read and I can hardly put books down! I cry and laugh a lot and I would love To be Ruth's good friend! How does she know those perfect Bible verses! I fall in love with every character!📚📚📚💕
I could relate to this story! As a former educator, I encounter several Caddies in my day! It's so true that more could not be done to help these little ones. I still pray for many of these kids. Good job Ruth

I loved, loved, loved this book. This is the first book by this author I have read and will now read more of her books. It was a good, clean, Christian book - no bad language and no sex scenes! The story was very heartwarming and at times I got teary. Very well written.
It was well written, but the story was a bit slow for me. I also don't like it when adults ignore children in need.
